汉白玉石雕雕塑常用的石料细分有以下几种品种：

1、上等汉白玉

在房山一带，当地人通称三尺白，是在山体中下部形成的约为1m厚的汉白玉夹层。三尺白硬度很大，且色泽洁白而均匀，这一层的厚度最多也不过1m，上下就再没有汉白玉的石材，开采难度很大，资源也很有限，整个山体为取这一层三尺白，上部都要全部开采清理，开采速度很慢，如要大量用料，应尽早准备购置原料。

房山白（根据地名而得名）色泽很白，但硬度很差，手用力搓都能磨碎。这种汉白玉表面看和三尺白区别不大，但其内在硬度相差很远，价格区别也很大，因此雕塑家在选材时应有一定的辨认能力。
Fangshan White (named after the place name) has a very white color, but its hardness is poor, and it can be ground even by rubbing it hard with your hands. This kind of White Marble has little difference from Sanchi white on the surface, but its internal hardness is very different, and the price is also very different. Therefore, sculptors should have certain identification ability when selecting materials.
3、雪花白

雪花白的表面具有片状的结晶特征，且脆性很大，不宜雕刻过细的内容，如人物雕塑活较小体量的石雕。河北曲阳地区多以此石加工中国的传统狮子。雪花白在曲阳原料充足，但成型的石块体量不是很大。

4、草白玉
4. Grass white jade
河北草白玉在曲阳也很多，其表面色泽略发青，且有不规则的黄线状，形状类似草绳捆扎在白石上所留下的黄印子。故名草白玉。草白玉石质坚硬，如果雕塑所处的位置较高可选用草白玉。因其石料成本低，也是雕刻的常用理想材料。只是在选材时，要找有经验的石工帮忙选料，防止在雕刻加工过程中在关键部位出现黄色线或斑块。

5、湘白玉
